Standard Addressed: 11.7.7: Atomic bomb and Hiroshima and Nagasaki


Objective: Students must articulate both sides of the argument to drop the bomb on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, being able to defend both positions. They should also be able to make an ethical judgment about such actions.


Method of delivery of material: PowerPoint, text, library books, internet.


Student tasks: Cornell notes, read text, research on internet


Assessment: Students will make 2 posters on the decision to bomb Hiroshima and Nagasaki. The first poster should support the decision to drop the bomb, expressing at least 2 facts (reasons) in both drawings and words. The 2nd poster should argue against dropping the bomb, using at least 2 facts, expressed in drawings and words.



Include a drawing and a phrase under the drawing. Look at your notes and online for information you can use on your poster. You MUST include facts on each poster; for example, if your supporting is illustrating why the bomb should be dropped, include one or two facts or reasons about what would happen if it isnít dropped.
